Since 1963 Commercial Center The First Open air mall built in Las Vegas has been a mecca for entrepreneurs, art & culture. We have a rich history of serving the Las Vegas community with a wide variety of business and personal services. In 2006 The Commercial Center Family of Businesses started a neighborhood beautification project "It's a small world" bringing Art to the Community under the Direction of Paula Sadler President and Founder of FreeParkAndArt, "Healing Through Art", and "Its a small world Mural Project. www.commercialcenterdistrict.com, The Commercial Center Business Association, and Historic Society to preserve our Historic Neighborhood. With a Re-branding from "Commercial Center" to "The Historic Commercial Center District", to include the Cultural Diversity of The Neighborhood family of businesses.
At The Time Howard Freeman answered the Call of Duty. To bring much needed relief and new life to the Baron Walls and structures of the neighborhood. At The time The Commercial Center was experiencing challenges with Graffiti. Paula Sadler suggested to the Neighbors that Art be installed wherever there was Graffiti. It was a big success none of the Artwork was tagged with new Graffiti.
Paula was first inspired by The Seagulls in 2004 that came to Commercial Center during their Altitudinal Migration, making Commerical Center their winter home, and still to this day make their way back 30-40 each year. She noticed them every year and had photographed their flock. She hopes that they can be taggged to see where they are from. Maybe they came from California or Salt lake maybe they are from "Over the Rainbow".
She applied her Experience with Native American Animal Totems, Numerology and Feng Shui to the needs of Commercial Center. While on a trip to San Jose she noticed the beautiful outdoor murals in the streets, medians and on utility boxes and was inspired to bring this concept to Commercial Center & Las Vegas.
After doing a numerology reading on the address 953, she found out it was an Eight (8) which is the number of the Artist and of Creativity. She saw the need to do these special treatments and her plan was to heal the neighborhood with images of nature.
Seagull medicine teaches nonverbal communication, art is one way to do this, and ecological cleanup as these are shore cleaning birds. She had an experience in Monterey Bay Pajero Dunes November 4th, 2001, when she found an injured seagull on the shore during the morning fog after a meditation as it took its last breath and died in her arms, The Seagull became near and dear to her, and it became a totem for her.
She noticed them in 2004 when she first opened her salon, they would come in the Winter and Leave in the Spring. She thought how Odd, Where did they come from and where were they going? She took it as a sign to take action. She used her intuition and spiritual Reiki practice to begin healing the neighborhood. Roadways symbolize water and buildings symbolize mountains in feng shui, she did a reading and saw it was off balance and did a few treatments and placed the symbol of a tiger at the Entrance for protection and nature images throughout as she believes in the healing power of nature.
As a tribute to the Totem that inspired it all she commissioned Artist Howard Freeman to Paint Seagulls at the entrance and create a beautiful Dolphin and Ocean Scene Near Building A on the Compactor Wall. A dedication to the healing power of the ocean and balance the Feng Shui. She dedicated this to Vallee Swan a mentor, Client and friend whom without support in Sadlers younger years in business would not have made it through and she would have not been able to bring this vision to life. Vallee passed away in 2014 after a yearlong battle with Colon Cancer
Colorectal cancer, or CRC, is the second deadliest cancer in the United States. Every March, National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month spotlights this disease and inspires more people to get checked starting at age 45. Two reasons why getting checked matters:
Unfortunately, Howards Dolphin Mural our First Large scale outdoor Mural in the Neighborhood was painted over by Recycled Propaganda under the Direction on Lindsey Olsen Owner of the A Building, during the Mural Mecca Fest hosted at the New Orleans and Mcmenemy Investment Serivces Square, what replaced it is a Desolate Desert Scene. We hope to have Howard back in the Future and Install Our Beloved Dolphin and Murals in the Future. They did place a dedication on the
Art to Vallee, we are Grateful for this. Underneath this Dry Desert Scene is an Ocean Full of Life, and is it secret and hidden now, but the energy of Howards Passion, and Love of Vallee, and the Healing Waters will always run deep.
